Revolution Mill

Revolution Mill is a historic cotton mill located in Greensboro, North Carolina, comprising roughly 700,000 sq. ft. In 2013, CT Wilson Construction Company joint-ventured with Weaver Cooke to bring the mill back to its original, exterior shell condition. The scope of work involved heavy structural demolition, partial roof replacement, 280+ new arched windows, brick masonry refurbishing, additional clearstory windows, and the re‐glazing of the existing historic steel windows. It also included the replacement of heavy wood timbers throughout, including beams, floor decking, and roof decking.

In 2015, CT Wilson Construction single‐handedly continued renovations, starting with interior shell work on the 120,000 sq. ft. “1250 Building.” Simultaneously, the “850 Building” was up‐fitted with 142 one‐, two‐, and three‐bedroom apartments, Color Works Event Center, a new shared Fitness Center, two interior elevators, one exterior glass modular elevator, and other amenities.

The interior courtyard was refurbished with an outdoor stage, projection screen, theater seating, and additional landscaping. New parking was added, and existing lots were resurfaced. A new 240’ arched connector bridge across Buffalo Creek was installed along with the restoration of two existing bridge structures. All of the buildings were re-roofed.

In 2018, CT Wilson turned the old carpenter’s shop into what is now Kau Restaurant (formerly Natty Greene’s Kitchen + Market.) This work consisted of a new interior mezzanine and outdoor deck with a serving bar over the present stormwater detention pond. Over 50 other individualized tenant buildouts ranging from 200 sq. ft. to 11,000 sq. ft. were completed through 2020.

CT Wilson finished the last phase of this massive adaptive reuse project in 2023, with construction beginning in the height of the pandemic. The Mill House building is a 134,000 sq. ft., five-story building that straddles Buffalo Creek. What originally was the flannel storehouse and later served as self-storage facility while the mill sat vacant has been converted into mixed-use space with living units, retail, office, and restaurant space. CT Wilson relocated our Greensboro office from the 1250 Building to the Mill House’s second floor and will continue with minor renovations and tenant upfits as the campus requires. This final phase cost over $20 million.
